ISLAMABAD: Comsats University Islamabad (CUI) is facing a serious crisis as recently, the Government of Pakistan has cut down the education funds to Universities by up to 11 Percent due to paucity of funds given to HEC.

The rector of Comsats University Islamabad, Raheel Qamar said CUI alone will face a budget cut of Rs. 172 million and with the abrogation of the normal 5-6% annual increase CUI will suffer a loss of Rs. 252 million in F.Y. 2019-20. Now, this is a huge loss in our annual recurring grant that will be impossible to cover from the Universities own resources, which have been under undue stress for the last so many years as the annual ad-hoc allowances were given by the government to employees have never been released to the Universities, resulting in huge deficits.

He further said that In order to bring the resources up to fulfill the needs of CUI, we shall need to raise the Student's Tuition Fee up to Rs. 10,500/- per semester that will be very difficult for parents to pay and it's not an option for us to go with.

Recently, the faculty members of Comsats University Islamabad (All Campuses) were on all-out protests due to lack of rights. They were demanding increment in Salaries, Permanent Job Posts, Promotions, Ad-hoc allowances that were announced by Govt. of Pakistan back in 2010.

The educational experts believe that the Govt. of Pakistan along with HEC is giving them enough funds but those funds are not being spent accordingly. In the past, there were many corruption scandals/controversies opened up against CUI shows a huge amount of corruption has been done on CUI campuses by Administration and Staff.

Comsats University Islamabad (CUI) is one of the biggest Educational Institute of technology in Pakistan. It is ranked between 800-1000 in worldwide according to a survey.
